Who receives services from AVHH?

Residents of Chaffee County, Colorado, who are 50 and over.

Is membership required?

Yes, but it is free !

How do I apply to be a member?

Call/text 719-530-1198 or email us at info@avhelpinghands.org to request an application. 

What areas does AVHH serve?

We serve all of Chaffee County.

Is there a membership fee?

We no longer require a membership fees !

How many members does AVHH have?

As of June 2022, we have 125 members.

Who provides the services?

Vetted volunteers provide ongoing services. Vetted volutneers and volunteers from the general public provide service for Seasonal Service events (one service Saturday each season).

How many volunteers does AVHH have?

As of June 2022, we have 116 volunteers.

What services does AVHH provide on an ongoing basis?

  • Some transportation to appointments/grocery store --- and often refer members to Chaffee Shuttle.
  • Grocery shopping or errands.
  • Light, occasional housecleaning. 
  • Snow shoveling program (preorganized each fall prior to each snow season).
  • Annual gutter cleaning.
  • Simple handy services.
  • Friendly visits or walks.
  • Care calls, including birthday calls.

What seasonal services does AVHH provide?

  • Snow Removal.
  • Activity Bag Distribution.
  • Produce Distribution.
  • Seasonal Service signature event --- exterior services one Saturday each season.

What services are not provided?

Keep in mind that Ark Valley Helping Hands is here to help, but we do have some limitations.

  • We do not provide routine services, such as regular housecleaning or ongoing yardwork. 
  • Landscaping is outside our wheelhouse. 
  • We do not provide electrical work, plumbing or construction labor. If experiencing an electrical or plumbing issue that needs attention or immediate attention, please contact a licensed electrician or plumber. We are not licensed to handle these types of issues. 
  • Although we can help with packing a few boxes or loading a truck, we are not professional movers. 
  • We can only provide transportation within Chaffee County, as our insurance does not cover transportation outside the county. 

Does AVHH provide emergent services?

AVHH does not provide emergent or on-demand services. We need a 5-day notice for all requests.
 
In the case of a medical emergency, call 911.
 
When does AVHH accept and process requests?
 
Office hours are Monday through Friday.

To stay true to our mission while continuing to expand our ability to servie older adults here in Chaffee, the Board of Directors is actively working through the process of folding Ark Valley Helping Hands under Chaffee County Public Health. This new structure will positively streamline our resources as we focus on our mission. We are excited about the organization's direction.
